Lana Del Rey's SNL Debut
It’s like the old saying--no publicity is bad publicity and truer words couldn’t be spoken about Lana Del Rey. Two days after her big Saturday Night Live debut people are still making comments about it. Critics have ripped apart her performance, calling it "too contrived". Moreover, even her most loyal fans are split on her Saturday night performance, publishing tweets of pity to tweets showing support and love.

The biggest controversy seems to be just how quickly Lana has risen to fame and the argument that her image is all a part of a manufactured marketing scheme by her record label. She made Buzznet’s list of the top nine women to watch out for in 2012, as well as landing on the cover of Billboard Magazine.
Then there is SNL. Why is it such a big deal? Bands wait years to be on SNL so it’s an incredible feat that a girl who is relatively unknown outside of youtube and internet buzz lands this gig before she even has an album out. I say more power to her but the performance was a bit luke warm--maybe there's a REASON bands have to wait years for their guest appearance. Take a look at the performance for yourself.
As for the manufactured image, those critics have a valid point considering Lana started off as Lizzy Grant and released an album entitled Lana Del Rey which was sold on Itunes but removed for unknown reasons. We were later introduced to Lana Del Rey the new musical internet sensation. Love her or hate her you have to admit Lana knows how to get people talking. And who can hate her for the decision to transform her image when it worked so well for artists like Katy Perry who morphed from Katy Hudson, gospel singer to Katy Perry pop icon?
What do you think--is Lana over-hyped and manufactured or talented, despite this one not so great preformance?
